P | J | P / L | O | D is a project developed thanks to a Grant of the Basque Government for the promotion of Art Projects (2012).
In the summer of 2012 I made the exhibition “WHY didn’t YOU save ME” in the Cultural Centre Montehermoso (Vitoria-Gesteiz), as the result of the Grant “Arte e Investigación” awarded by this centre for the Production of Art Projects.
The two previous years until then I had been working on a project on the imaginary about landscapes. I thought that it would be completely finished after the exhibition; after presenting the paintings, drawings and video works that I had selected for the show.
It wasn’t this way. The feeling I had was of not being done with all the material. I had chose, bought, tore, kept, ordered and connected a great number of pictures of landscapes, which I used throughout the work process as references for the paintings, drawings and video footage. But the feeling after the exhibition was that I still had lot of material to use. Symbolisms and further formal and emotional connections to work with.
Tried to make a self-edited, small publication. Printed a DIN A3 on both sides and folded it like an accordion, so I achieved working with 16 more images from the archive. But still needed to use more. I wanted to work on a book in which I could gather and show a last selection of images of landscapes.
“Paisajes | Jardines | Palmeras / Love | Obsession | Desire” is a project made possible thanks to the grant by the Basque Government for the Promotion and Difusion of Art Projects. Thanks to this grant I could work with Folch Studio on the design and commission a text to the artist Lorea Alfaro. The publication was printed in an edition of 400 units.
P | J | P / L | O | D adopts the form of this publication in order to gather and connect a last selection of the images handled in the process of the series of drawings “Temporay Landscapes”, “Brother & Sister” and “Posters” (2010-12), and the works that make these up. This is a book of images. About painting.
